Just by looking at the broncos used in the 2 logo designs it easy to assume that a trademark infringement is just round the corner. True enough, the officials of Idaho’s Boise State University is studying the copyright issues and legal remedies on this matter.
According to a news article, many Boise State fans noticed the confusingly similar sports logo used by Kamloops Broncos, a football team based in British Columbia competing in Canadian Junior Football League.
Both logos feature a head of a Bronco but using different color schemes and looking at opposite direction. Boise State combines blue and orange while Kamloop’s is using a darker shade of blue.
In defense, Kamloops claims the use of this confusingly similar logo is not deliberate and all copyright issues were reviewed before using this design.
“We’re not out to make money, we’re a non-profit. We liked the name, and Boise State’s done a great job with their logo,” said Kamloops general manager Dino Bernardo. “It was never our intention to steal a logo from the Boise State Broncos.”
Moreover, Kamloops also announced its plan to replace this logo in preparation for 2008 season.
