Animal Planet Unleashes Wild Logo

Hoping to shed away its family-friendly appeal, the Animal Planet has launched a new logo and brand campaign to satisfy the animal nature of its adult audience.

According to its press release, it will launch 8 new series and specials in the hope of tapping into the “instincts that drive us all - fear, hunger, pleasure, nurture - with compelling stories that resonate with what it means to be human.”

Unfortunately, its logo design may not be up for the challenge. It basically lacks that brute and raw appeal that will send shiver down my spine. If the designers think turning the letter “M” sideways can tap our “instinctual feelings”, there is a big probability they are wrong. In fact, it’s confusing. Some suppose it’s an animal in a different position like sleeping or ready to fornicate. Though I’m afraid my rusty imagination can’t seem to figure out this animal (if it’s an animal at all).

Still, the new programming is so promising. The Animal Planet promised to dramatically alter its perspective from documentary style to gripping entertainment. Perhaps it should do the same to its new logo design – make it more exciting.
