BEST BUY New Logo ReDesign


BEST BUY is testing out a redesign of it’s famous “tag” mark. The old tag logo has become quite an icon and stands for the low cost and convenience brabd strayegy that the company has had for all these years.

You can not miss this icon in malls or when you open the local newspaper. Although the old logo looks similar to the Block Buster logo design, it still conveyed the right kind of message and aligned itself well with the budget conscious market segment.

However the new Best Buy logo design looks quite classy with thinner font face enclosed in a blue box and slightly simplified tag icon. Even though the new logo redesign looks more polished and current, I believe it actually conveys a different message. To me, it says, class, elegance and more expensive. Perhaps Best Buy is changing it’s brand strategy. Perhaps it is also changing the way it markets its stores and the perhaps it is aiming at a different market segment.

It is hard to believe that Best Buy would throw away such a huge brand equity with out a valid reason.
