This is the second article of the ‘Role of Sports Logo Design’ series starting with basketball logo design. In our previous article, you are promised a series of articles on sports teams, clubs and tournaments and the way different sports play a crucial role in promoting the Brand names and Sports Logos of businesses all over the world, and so here you are with the sport of Golf in this article.

Golf is a ball and club (bat/stick) sport in which a golfer tries to hit the ball into as many holes dug in the ground as possible in the shortest time on an open area called green, course and links. Like every other fine art or sport, golf sport also needs sponsors, and sponsors need some interesting activity – be it an entertainment programme or sport event – to promote their brand name! This sport of golf is a decent and mostly silent sport. Some people who have not had enough understanding or knowledge of this sport may think it a passive or lazy sport, or an expensive sport which is not within the reach of an average sport-enthusiast. Though this notion might be true some years ago when only certain high profile clubs maintained golf courses and the entry into those clubs or those golf teams was a status symbol, and for the common people getting membership into those clubs or teams was only a dream, it is certainly everybody’s game now.

There are numerous clubs which accept any average person who can fulfil the clubs’ requirements and who can afford a nominal fee. In addition, there are many ex-players who couch the new entrants, without demanding high fees. And most importantly, there are several open places which are called golf courses, greens, links, made fit to play golf games.

And again there may be some us who think the sport of golf is not very lucrative in terms of money. And here again the sceptics are wrong. The money some of the top players make in a season is as high as that of the players of the other more popular sports make! For instance, Tiger Woods earned 110 million dollars from winnings and endorsements, $ 7.7 from the winnings and $ 92 million from endorsements, in 2008; Vijay Singh got $ 6,601,094 and Tiger Woods $ 5,775,000 in one match season in 2008.

A business establishment may be apprehensive whether to be a golf tournament sponsor and to spend a large amount on golf sport where the golf courses seem to be without crowds screaming from merely being there. But here again those sceptics are proven wrong. A quick look at the statics show us that golf is not a game without the thrills of its own.

Here we are given some figures for those who question the popularity of this up-coming sport: From somewhere about 8,000 to 200,000 spectators attend any high profile golf tournament. Around 123,000 spectators made the trip to Turnberry to watch and enjoy a tournament. A golf tournament organiser confidently said: “Next year at St Andrews we’ll have close to 200,000, while Muirfield in 2011 will have about 160, 000. It just reflects the location. Nearly 80,000 more will come to St Andrews in 2010 just to watch some of the top players ‘putting’ holes!”

And if you’re still pessimistic here are some figures that might make you realise whether this sport has potential or not, and whether there is enough scope for your brand and product to get the 1: 10 ratio returns!

Some of the top golf sponsors include financial institutions, large car companies, as well as some of the old regular sponsors such as watch companies, white goods companies etc. Let’s take a look at who is fighting whom for sponsorship results from a well-thought of, expensive and perhaps, effective marketing initiative.

Golf is becoming so popular these days that several industrial giants make their brand name appear on the list of sponsors:

These giant industries are not sponsoring this sport for nothing – there is definitely 1:10 ratio returns. When such great industries are in the race, it is quite obvious that there is a lot of opportunity for any business establishment to get their business promoted in this arena.

The next question any pessimist may come up with is: where can we ‘display’ our brand and products? The answer is simple: there are numerous vintage points all over the golf course – from the entrance to the greens; in and at the club building; on the premises; and on the equipment the players carry with them – golf bags, golf carts, balls, golf clubs (bats/sticks), etc!

And finally, no article on golf is complete without the mention of the most popular of all players Tiger Woods, the American professional golfer! Though there have been several charismatic golfers, Eldrick Tont ‘Tiger’ Woods, currently the World No.1, has made an ever-lasting mark in the history of golf!

Whether your jewelry business is a small time deal being run from your home or a multi-national corporation, you need a jewelry logo that customers can identify. A jewelry logo will not only make it easier for customers to remember your store, it will create a corporate brand with personality and flavor. If you are using a logo artist for your jewelry logo, stationery, and catalog design, he or she will consider the following style tips when designing your jewelry logo and make it to the top of the Top 10 Jewelry Logos.

First, there is the issue of a jewelry logo graphic. Many jewelry companies use a jewel in their logo, which can actually make it a poor choice. After all, you want your logo to stand out, right? Luckily, there are other shapes that are associated with jewelry. Necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings all have a recognizable shape that can be stylized to be unique and attention worthy. You can also choose traditionally feminine shapes such as flowers. If your company name evokes a particular image, that also can be a memorable choice for a jewelry logo. If you have any special ideas for your logo or catalog design, it’s important to share them with your logo artist.

Second, you and your logo artist need to choose a font for your company name. Traditionally, jewelry logo fonts are very ornate with swirling edging and a lot of detail. Because there are almost an infinite amount of fonts available, there is no need for your jewelry logo to deviate from this if you and your graphic artist. However, some successful logos for jewelry businesses use more blocky, modern lettering. If you want to step outside the box when it comes to jewelry font lettering, the possibilities are endless.

Third, you need to decide if your jewelry logo will have color and, if so, what that color scheme will be. There is nothing wrong with black and white. In fact, it can be a distinctive choice that sets you apart from other companies. However, many people prefer a colored jewelry logo. If you have a preference for black and white or for a specific color, make sure to let your logo artist know. There are distinct advantages and disadvantages that he or she can explain to you. You need to choose carefully because any color you choose will have to be used repeatedly throughout your company.

Last, you need to think about how your jewelry logo can be worked into all aspects of your company’s visual work. From your business cards to catalog design to signage, your logo will be ubiquitous in your company. The goal is for a jewelry logo to not just represent your brand, but to actually become your brand. Your company will be not just a place that customers shop, but a place that they identify with. This is why it is so important to end up with a jewelry logo that is attractive enough to be seen over and over by you, your employees, your customers, and your community.

Construction, building, development and property building is a competitive business, but there are ways you can stay ahead of the competition. One method that will set you apart is branding. Simply put, this means putting a face on your business to make it more appealing to your potential clients. This will make them feel like they know your company and thus be more likely to choose it. The key to creating a brand is to have an attractive, professional construction company logo created for your business. A graphic artist can help you through the following steps:

Choose a property builder logo oriented graphic. If you look at the average property construction project, you will see a lot of triangles and squares. These and other angular shapes are strongly associated with building logos and construction. For this reason, your construction company brand may benefit from using these shapes as a graphic. Other choices for custom logo graphics include tools, hard hats, and buildings. The right graphic artist can turn basic shapes and symbols into a memorable, stylish logo that speaks to customers.

Choose a development logo oriented color. Black and white can be a bold choice with the right graphic, but color can also make logos friendlier and more memorable. Because the signs on construction brand projects are often red, orange, and/or yellow, these are popular and attention-getting choices for a construction company logo. Whatever the color palette you choose, keep it to one or two colors (including black) only to avoid a cluttered or confusing logo.

Prominently display your company name. Your company brand name is an important part of your construction company brand. Use a bold, readable font so your potential customers can easily read the wording and connect the picture with your name. Connecting your name to your logo is an important part of branding, and including your name in the logo itself will make this inevitable.

Place your property developer company brand. Once you have a custom logo that is perfect for your company, let it do its work by displaying it at every opportunity. Put your logo on signs placed on current and completed jobs. Use it in advertisements. Many company owners find that company t-shirts are a good way to keep your logo in the public eye. Not only will company shirts help your workers meet your grooming standards, they allow customers and employees alike to identify at a glance who belongs on the worksite. Employees will wear your company shirts to and from work as well as at lunch, displaying your logo in otherwise impossible locations. Customers will connect your construction company identity to the quality of your work if you include your custom logo wherever possible.

Get on the world wide web. One benefit of a construction business brand is that it can be a springboard for a web site, setting the style and color palette. Your next step should be to develop a web presence, including a website with information about your company’s strong points. Many modern people use the internet as a resource when looking for a construction company, so the web can be considered a modern equivalent of the yellow pages.

Construction companies with a brand and a recognizable construction business branding are more successful. Don’t hide your light under a bushel; let your community and your customers see what your company stands for.

What do you need to run a successful coffee shop? Many people would give answers such as a coffee machine, espresso beans, or employees, but a well designed coffee shop logo or any restaurant logo is just as important. Company logos tell your customers who you are, how you run your business, and what your mission is. Because everyone recognizes the Starbucks logo, I will use it as an example of a coffee shop logo that works.

Shape. This coffee shop logo has a round shape, which gives people a subconscious feeling of unity and inclusiveness. Most people want to feel warmed and nurtured by their coffee, so company logos with a round shape or at least one with rounded edges will attract them most. Logo artists can design the round iconic logo so your eye is drawn either to the graphic, or in the case of Starbucks, to the company name.

Readability. The company name in this coffee shop logo is prominently displayed in a plain, easily readable font. That’s probably why everyone in the United States knows the name. All company logos should include the business’s name in a bold, dominant font. Starbucks takes this a step further by using a different color background for the name than for the image. Because the name is bright green, the customer’s eye is drawn to it rather than to the black and white siren image.

Color. The green logo color is calming and at the same time suggests freshness, which is one of Starbucks’ core values. Many coffee shops and cafe logos use green for their coffee shop logo, but there are other effective options. Some company logos use shades of brown, which is the color of a coffee bean. Interestingly, the original Starbucks logo was a chocolate brown. A qualified logo artist will be able to help you decide what color speaks the most about your company and your values. Check out a juice shop logo that we created for a client.

Use of graphics. Graphics make a coffee shop logo more memorable and give your company a face that customers can remember and identify. The siren who is the mascot of Starbucks is a good example. Few people consciously notice the siren centered in the middle of the Starbucks logo, because she is positioned in a way to downplay the sexuality normally associated with sirens. However, the logo would not be as complete or as recognizable without this image. Company logos are generally more successful when an attractive image takes center stage. Check out a eco friendly logo we created for a cafe client.

Consistency. The Starbucks coffee shop logo is recognizable at least in part because it is everywhere. From signage to cups to décor, company logos should be printed on every available surface for maximum effect. The more customers see a coffee shop logo in connection with the coffee shop itself, the more they will identify the logo with the business and the experience. Check out how somebody copied the Starbucks logo.

There is a lot to be learned from this design, which showcases how a logo artist can design company logos to express more than words alone could say. Would Starbucks be as successful without its recognizable coffee shop logo? We’ll never know for sure, but the logo definitely helped define the company in the eyes of customers and the community.

Most landscaping businesses are run by blue collar guys who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. As a result, in many companies very little attention and time are given to details like a landscaping logo and branding. However, in a business where aesthetics are a crucial part of every job—and a competitive business at that—every landscaper needs the help of designers from a reputable graphic design firm to create a landscaping logo that will keep the customers coming. There are a few rules that most landscaping logos seem to follow.

Keep it simple. Landscaping is for the most part a business where the results speak for themselves. The outlook is simple: do what works, and do what looks good. This is probably the reason the most successful landscaping logo is usually one of the most simple ones. Basic shapes, readable text, and an uncomplicated color palette make for a memorable design in this field. Designers from a top graphic design firm know that too much clutter will detract from the success of your landscaping logo.

Keep it natural. Landscaping is a business that works with mainly natural elements, such as plants, water, and rocks. Most artificial ingredients used in our landscapes are seen as being inferior or merely utilitarian—think Astroturf. As such, your landscaping logo should focus on beauty of a natural sort. Whether you work mainly with grass, flowers, rocks, or trees, center on the terrestrial side of your business by making natural products the stars of your landscaping logo. Who knew a leaf could be so compelling?

Keep it green. When it comes to landscaping logo color palettes, green is the most common choice. All it takes is a glance out your window to see why; green is ever present in our landscapes. However, don’t think this means a boring logo. You can make your logo more interesting by using two different colors of green, by adding an interesting accent color, or by choosing a funkier shade of green (avocado, anyone?). Designers from a graphic design firm will know how to keep your logo green while making it interesting, appealing, and memorable.

Keep it memorable. This is where the designers from the graphic design firm you are working with will have to be creative. All landscaping companies deal with grass and plants, but what sets yours apart from the competition? Do you have an interesting tagline or motto? Your landscaping logo should reveal this and more. Whether you are a fun company, an environmentally friendly company, or one with an above-average attention to detail, make sure your logo shows what makes you unique.

Successful landscaping businesses have to toe a narrow line, between natural and man-made, between blue collar and corporate sensibilities, and between quality and cost effectiveness. Luckily, you don’t have to walk the same tightrope when it comes to design. Hire a graphic design form and let a team of designers develop a landscaping logo that is just right for you.
