Despite the popularity of the crocodile logo design owned by French fashion company Lacoste, its clout is not powerful enough to ban other crocodile logos. In this case, it’s a fight against a dental company in the UK named The Dental Practice.

In fact, this is the second battle between the companies. Founded by dentists Dr Simon Moore and Dr Tim Rumney, the dental company has decided to use a crocodile logo because of its natural association with teeth. But when they tried to register this logo design in 2004, legal counsels for Lacoste were quick to disprove their application for it is confusingly similar to their famous crocodile logo seen on millions of polo shirts worldwide.

The striking differences between the two crocodiles are its position, red tongue and the white oblong scales. Much to the disappointment of the fashion company, the UK Intellectual Property Office body ruled in favor of the Dental Practice. Lacoste was ordered to pay 1,450 pounds for this lawsuit.

As expected, Lacoste filed an appeal to reverse the verdict. Unfortunately, the decision of the government body remains the same for they do not believe it will confuse the general consumers.
