Logo Design Trends for 2010
Logo Design Trends for 2010: With the year more than half over, we have already begun to see a few trends in the world of logo design that we could never have predicted. Read on to see what logo trends are setting this year apart from the rest as seen in 2009.
Cutting Back. This logo trend takes a normal design and then cuts it a little short. This can create a unique logo and hint at a company offering not a little more, but a little less. The following logos may be the first of their kind, but they are certainly not the last. We expect to see more of this style in the coming months.
1. Cutcost.com Logo Design
This is a
text based logo with a twist. Instead of having a logo with just the
company name and
website in a traditional yet casually lower case font, this image goes a little beyond the ordinary by cropping the bottom quarter of the writing. The wording is still clearly visible, but it takes an extra second to read. This extra second gives the logo more time to be observed and remembered by observers.
2. Cite des sciences et de l’industrie Logo Design
In this case, the cropped writing has been cut short to fit into a neat square, giving a sense of tradition to this scientific organization. The aggressive red combined with the slight off center position of the circle adds a little personality as seen in
retro ideas for web sites, but the way the letters are cropped really steals the show. This logo is simple enough to work for this straightforward industry, but interesting enough to draw in the eye.
3. Spats Logo Design
In this case, the image rather than the text is cut short. Several line drawings of old fashioned people are cut short by a bar to make room for Wild West lettering. The dark
blue color is a traditional choice in color. In this case, cropping one element of the design allows for a well rounded and balanced logo.
All Tied Up. Ribbons are now more than a sign that you’ve won the county fair; they are more and more a sign of advocacy and support. Because they are fluid and can show movement, ribbons can also be used to show movement and fluidity. This multi-functional shape is beautiful and communicative, which might be why we are seeing it more and more in the world of logos.
1. Tulsa AIDS Walk Logo Design
This logo goes for a simple look with the word ‘Walk’ in simple, unadorned letters in eye catching uppercase letters. A red ribbon, the symbol of AIDS awareness, is folded and symmetrically placed in the center of the word. The ribbon is made of a red shoelace, which ties perfectly into this event. This image is simple, yet
memorable enough to stand for this community event.
2. Warm Air Logo Design
This is not an advocacy group, but instead a heating and
air conditioning company. However, the ribbon logo trend works just as well here because of its innate versatility. Because of the name, warm colors such as red and orange were really the only choice. If you look closely, the ribbon loosely forms the shape of the letter W. The font is unique, but not enough to detract from the simple and attractive image.
3. Healthcare Support Logo Design
The cross shape is often used in
healthcare designs, so it is appropriate to see ribbons for advocacy forming a cross in the logo of this healthcare advocacy organization. The simple, upper case writing gives a feeling of seriousness that is bolstered by the use of blue in the image. The hint of gold adds just the right amount of emphasis, drawing in the eye while suggesting quality. Creating a cross from laying the two ribbons against each other makes it easy to have a healthcare oriented logo without being overly obvious or cliché.
Going Dotty. This logo design trend is a variation of the popular mosaic pattern we are seeing in new logos all over the world. Using circles instead of other shapes gives a feeling of friendliness and inclusiveness while creating a light, bubbly image. As we will see in these logo designs, a variety of companies can use this theme successfully.
1. Springboard Logo Design
This mortgage company is trying to project a very different image from the average serious
financial services logo design. It achieves this by using a springboard image made of circles, which ties into the name and the trend beautifully. The use of green gives an earthy, organic image that, combined with the inclusiveness of the circle, appeals to modern families.
2. Zonik Logo Design
This logo design has an image of the company’s initial made of
multi-colored logo dots. The bubbly charm of this trend combined with the many primary colors gives a fun, likeable feeling that is sure to appeal to potential customers. The only question is whether this trendy logo design an withstand the test of time.
3. Hyatt Place Logo Design
Can a hotel company benefit from a logo design motif that is inherently playful and anything but serious? Hyatt Place shows that this can be done with success. A square is made of multiple dots in a variety of colors. The sense of many different elements coming together to create a cohesive whole cannot be missed.
There are both dangers and benefits of using trendy designs in your company’s logo. First, while they might be timely at the exact moment, there is a good chance that a trend might be hopelessly outdated in just a few years. Second, many companies will be following the same trend, which will make it difficult for your logo to be as unique and noteworthy as it needs to be in order to distinguish your company from the competition. Despite these drawbacks, these elements can be combined into professional and unique logo designs when handled by an experienced logo designer.
