The Montreal police have decided to let go of the river, downtown skyline, and mountain to pave way to its new logo designed with a five-pointed star, a human silhouette, and the acronym SPVM (Service de police de la Ville de Montréal or City of Montreal Police Service).

The human silhouette in the new logo represents the agency’s respect for fellow human beings. The five-pointed star, on the other hand, is the long time visual identity representing strong unity among people.
Moreover, Montreal police also created a new slogan: “The SPVM, a committed team” or “Le SPVM, une équipe engagée” in French.
Since the last logo was launched in 1972 or 35 years ago, the Montreal police believe this is the right time to adopt a new and unified identity. It will be worn as a badge on the uniforms of police officers, cadets, metro cops, crossing guards, parking meter attendants, towing inspectors, taxi inspectors, and all civilian employees.
It will also be used in all printed materials like business cards, print productions, stationery, and flags. The Montreal police inspector confirms this new design costs about $25,000.
As for the schedule of implementation, the new logo will be on the uniforms within 3 years while all police vehicles in 5 years.
