Logo Design News

This post might be a bit late for the Halloween and quite morbid for some readers. As an avid follow of logo designs, however, I feel obliged to write about this subject. I recently discovered about this innovative company named Collegiate Memorials which licenses college and university insignias or logos on their memorial products like coffins and cremation urns.

Moreover, this family business aims to “provide tasteful personalization to a unique group that wishes to declare their life interest.” Catered to those devoted to their colleges or universities, these solid oak caskets feature schools’ logo designs on the inside lid.

Some of the schools included are University of Arkansas, University of Miami, Georgia Tech, University of North Carolina, and Air Force Academy. Just like any item using school logos like apparels, Collegiate Memorial pays these schools royalties around 5 to 10 percent. Some even charge annual licensing fees.

Unavoidably, there are some people or groups who find these school-themed caskets inappropriate. Conservative universities also have trademark policies banning the use of logos on any merchandise “that may cause embarrassment or ridicule the institutions.” On the other hand, some are rethinking their trademark policies to lift the ban on caskets with logos.
