The name Texas is derived from “tejas,” meaning “those who are friends” or “friends.” The name of Texas and the people of Texas coincide very well. In Texas, you will find some of the friendliest people in the country. The people of Texas don’t really consider themselves part of the south, but they consider themselves “Texans.” Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and was the Republic of Texas for almost a decade.

The state boasts that six different flags and six different countries have ruled the land. There has been the Fleur-de-lis of France, the national flags of Spain, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the US flag and the Confederate flag. This concept has since been carried over into the more modern theme in the development of the Six Flags Amusement Park.

Texas is located in the southernmost area of the Great Plains. The terrain here, much like other Great Plains state, is very varied as you travel the state. The Rio Grande River and the Sabine River provide natural state lines and borders. The residents of the state generally dissect the state into four different regions including North Texas, South Texas, East Texas and West Texas. The West Texas region also features the Panhandle region.

Texas has several prominent industries due to the size of the state. Cattle ranching, oil and agriculture have all been main industries in the state. Cattle ranching was never Texas’ chief industry but was merely a location to drive cattle. Before the oil boom, cotton farming was the chief industry in the state.

The state’s largest city is San Antonio. Other major economic centers include Dallas and Houston. Houston controls the petrochemical and biomedical research while Dallas has the aerospace and defense manufacturing.

The Texas culture is a melting pot as people from other states including Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and the Dakotas move south. Many of these places lose their college educated children to these areas.

Football and Texas have always gone together. Football is a Texas Friday night tradition and football has popularity that is unlike any other state. High school and college universities are often scrutinized for the amount of money spent on football. Other popular sports include golf, basketball, fishing and auto racing.

Texas is the largest state with a variety of different features. These many features lead to numerous ideas that will benefit you in your Texas logo design. Texas is a large state with many businesses, so Texas businesses must be able to compete with professionally designed Texas logo designs.
